Meet Will Haynie

Family

  • Will first moved to Mount Pleasant with his parents in 1966
     
  • Married to Suzette Haynie, a fifth grade teacher at Jennie Moore Elementary School in Mount Pleasant. They have a daughter who is a recent Wando graduate and three children who have completed college, two of whom live and work in the area.
     
  • Attends Saint Andrew’s Church, Mount Pleasant
     
  • Taught adult Sunday school (East Cooper Baptist), serves on various ministries
     

Education

Will graduated from The Citadel in 1983, where he was the Regimental Commander of the Corps of Cadets and received, alongside General Mark W. Clark, the college’s highest award for leadership and character. He received departmental honors as a business major.

Civic Service

  • Lowcountry Crisis Pregnancy Center board president
     
  • 4 years as a volunteer mentor in a Lowcountry Title 1 elementary school
     
  • Saint Alban’s Vestry board member (ministry to Citadel cadets)
     
  • Served on the Lane Commission, as an alumnus, to uncover leadership failures at The Citadel and recommend solutions
     
  • Served as board president for Boy Scouts USA district and non-profit Blue Ridge Health Services Foundation while living in North Carolina

  • CEO of the Lowcountry Open Land Trust for 7 years, helping preserve 50,000 acres of the Lowcountry landscape during his tenure
